Meet Dr. Stephen Adesina, Assistant Principal at both Hemmerling and Hoffer Elementary Schools. "I am a family man, educator for over 40 years, trained more than 10,000 students worldwide, love soccer, volleyball. cross country, a devoted Christian. Dear Parent/Guardian:
Our students will be administered the required California Physical Fitness Test (PFT) this
school year, starting in February 2024, and on various days through April 2024, until all tests
are completed.
For this testing period, the California Department of Education (CDE) has emergency
regulations that will allow schools to administer only the following five components of the PFT:
● Aerobic Capacity
● Abdominal Strength and Endurance
● Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility
● Upper Body Strength and Endurance
● Flexibility
About the PFT
California has chosen the FITNESSGRAM ® as its annual PFT for students in grades five,
seven, and nine. Results from the PFT provide students and their families with a measurement
they can use along with other information to monitor their overall fitness. The results also can
be used by schools to evaluate their physical education program.
Helping Your Child Prepare
You play an important role in your child’s education and can help your child get ready for the
test. Here are ways you can help:
● Talk about the PFT with your child. Make sure your child is not anxious and is ready
to do their very best.
● Tell your child that you and their teacher are both there to help, every step of the
way, and want them to do their best to finish what they can.
● Help make sure your child engages in 60 minutes of activity every day.
● Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast before
testing.

Banning Unified School District will be offering parenting class for all parents who have children ages 2-12.
Classes start tomorrow, January 17th.

Meet Emilio Murillo, Teacher at Nicolet Middle School. Here is a little more from Emilio, "I have a beautiful wife Yesenia. We have been married for 9 years and I have known her since high school. Have 3 kids that are students in Banning Unified, Sophia who is in 8th grade at NMS. Sebastian and Salma who are 2nd and 1st graders at Central elementary. I am a big sport enthusiast as I love all sports especially baseball, football, basketball and golf. My hobbies are playing golf and going to Dodger games. Fun fact about me is that I am ambidextrous and can do various things with both hands and feet. Fun fact is at our site NMS we have a Pi day event that has gotten bigger each year and students get to throw whip cream at myself and other teachers. I love working for Banning USD as these students need all the support not just academically but also social and emotional learning as well. I treat my classroom as their home and make sure they feel comfortable each and every day. I have seen my nephews and niece come through the Banning USD and wanted to contribute to all students success. Anything I can do to make an impact I will always try my best." #BanningUSD
